Mar. 24/25: “Make a Splash!”

Did You Know… that in FY09 (July 2008-June 2009) Iowans checked out 28.7 million items from public libraries?

Behind My Desk… It’s been one very long winter. As Iowans, we also know that it may not be through with us yet. People are tired of the gloomy days. They are tired of lots of things and that just comes with the territory. Just to acknowledge the fact that, yes, I’m very aware that our parking lot seems to be full most days. Some of that was due to the abundance of snow. Some of that was to staff members having to use the regular parking lot. Some days our meeting room is being used for census training and ICN classes and meetings. The parking lot is a shared venture with the library (which means it is part of the City of Atlantic’s public parking) and the church next door to us. When the new addition to the library was proposed in the 1990’s, an agreement was set in place to allow parking for special church events such as funerals by its parishioners and that has happened as well. Here’s another reason…the library is busy! We have wifi and approximately thirteen public access computers. We also have library programs! Because of the times and to save some money, more people are using our collections. I’m not trying to dismiss those people who have tried to find a parking space and it was full. I’m just saying this is what we want, isn’t it…a vital, busy part of the community? I know; it’s still very irritating to find the whole lot full when you need a parking space.

Ok, Julie, here you go: This is a list of the Iowa Teen Award Books for 2010-11 and are located in the “Tween” section on the lower library level.
