 Did You Know…

Through the first two months of 2013, Atlantic Public Library Patrons saved $182,278.88 by checking materials out from the library rather than purchasing them?

Behind My Desk…

Though we’ve been hit with some winter weather recently, it’s nice to leave work and still have a little daylight left!  It will be even better once Daylight Savings Time begins on March 10th.  Just another sign Spring is on its way.  I know I’m ready!

I had the opportunity to attend the Cass County Genealogical Society’s monthly meeting this week.  I had a wonderful time.  What a lively group!  In case you didn’t know, the Society is housed right in the library and is a wonderful resource if you are interested in learning more about Cass County history or your own family history.  Their many resources include: club & fraternity records, high school yearbooks, marriage & obituary files, Atlantic, Anita, Cumberland and Lewis newspapers on microfilm.  And that’s just a partial list!  The Society is also looking for new members, so if you have an interest in history, consider attending one of their meetings.  They are held here at the library on the fourth Thursday of the month at 1:00.  If you have other questions, they can be reached by calling the library at 712-243-5466 or by email at casscgs@yahoo.com.

I would also like to take this opportunity to encourage Cass County students in grades K-12 to participate in this year’s Conservation Poster Contest sponsored by the Cass County Soil and Water Conservation District in partnership with the Atlantic Public Library.   This year’s theme is Where Does Your Water Shed? Julie, our Youth Librarian, has all the necessary materials downstairs at the library.  Completed posters are due by Friday, March 29th and will be judged locally by the Cass Soil and Water Conservation District Commissioner by May 17th.  Advancement is possible to both Regional and State levels.  Prizes are awarded at both the local and regional level!  Contact Julie here at the library (712-243-5466) or the Cass County SWCD office (712-243-3180) for more information.

Don’t forget to “Spring” forward on the 10th and keep …Thinking Libraries!
