Behind My
Desk…
Back in March, I wrote about the Cass County
Soil & Water Conservation 2013 Poster contest for K-12 graders and winners
have now been announced. Bryan York was
the Division 2, Region 5 winner, Katie York, the Division 3, Region 5 winner,
and Danyelle Foresman, sponsored through the library, was the Division 4,
Region 5 winner. Congratulations to all!
Learning Express 3.0 is being updated with a
new interface and other upgrades! Learning
Express 3.0 is a database that contains hundreds of career and
academic-oriented courses and practice tests online. Iowans have access to
free, unlimited, interactive skill-building courses in math, reading, writing,
along with tutorials on Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint. Students can access
practice tests such as the ACT, SAT, and GED. Job seekers can access
occupational tests for firefighters, police officers, paramedics, real estate
agents, and many more.
If you are already registered on Learning
Express 2.0, you will need to re-register with Learning Express 3.0. The classes, tests, and eBooks you’ve
downloaded will not carry over. However,
Learning Express 2.0 will still be available for several months, allowing time
to complete any tests or courses already begun.
I’ve had a chance to see the new Learning
Express and I think it’s a great improvement over 2.0. It’s much more streamlined and
user-friendly. I will add the 3.0 icon
to our website as soon as it is available.
Stay tuned!
Don’t forget, fall storytime has begun! The next sessions are this Monday, September
30 and Tuesday, October 1 at 10:00.
Enjoy these fall days and … Keep thinking
libraries!
