Did You Know… the Atlantic Public Library keeps a list of new adult books on Library Thing? That is located on the right hand side of the library main webpage. Nine book covers automatically are shown from that list.
Behind My Desk… Every month I go through our patron files and find out whose cards will be expiring in the next month. It may not be fair, but the best way I have of keeping up to date records is to see who from that list has not checked out any library material in the last year.
It’s not the end of the world, however. If we don’t find your name in our records, we simply ask you to fill out a new registration form and show a piece of identification with your current address. Quite often we are not aware that someone has changed addresses or phone numbers until we need to contact them about a reserve book someone needs to pick up or an overdue item that needs to come back. Try to let us know when you plan to move or change contact information. It makes it a whole lot easier for everyone!
Don’t forget that at the end of the month on the 28th at 6:30 p.m., the Atlantic Public Library will be hosting a book discussion with Rosanne Bachman about her book Driving to Clarinda! If you haven’t had the opportunity to read this book, we have several copies for loan. This is the third in a series of programs sponsored by the Cass County Library Association.
I want to also mention that the library has a subscription to a special website for youngsters called TumbleBooks. Parents and grandparents who have Internet and a computer at home, this is a terrific place for young ones to “read” books and/or listen to books. It even has a section for foreign languages such as Spanish, French, Chinese and Russian. I highly recommend this site. The link is on the library main page. Just click on the Tumblebooks icon and away you go!
