Did You
Know…
According to a Scholastic Study (http://kyte.ws/Xkf88c), the percentage
of children who have read an eBook has almost doubled since 2010 (25% vs. 46%) The
Atlantic Library provides children’s eBooks through our WILBOR and TumbleBooks
databases. Find the links on our home
page!
Behind My
Desk
You’ve maybe noticed Janie hanging out in the
stacks recently with a cart full of books.
Or maybe you’ve noticed empty shelving in the non-fiction section of the
library. The reason for both is that
we’re weeding parts of the library collection.
Weeding is a necessary part of library
work. Books become worn, contain
outdated information or lose popularity.
And as we are always adding to our collection and have limited shelf
space, we have to remove other titles.
It’s not easy to do. We love our
books! But we also want the collection
to be current and contain materials that the community needs and wants.
But don’t worry. Those empty shelves will be filled soon. We’re looking to shift some things
around. The large print section, for
example, is overflowing its current space so we’re hoping to find additional
space for them. So there will be some
changes, but I think it will be worth it in the end! Less crowded shelves make for easier
browsing!
If you’re wondering what we’re doing with all
the books we’ve removed from the collection, they will be on sale at our next
Friends of the Library book sale coming up in April. And if you have books you’d like to donate to
the sale, please follow these guidelines:
no old encyclopedias or textbooks or self-help books more than 5 years
old.
And finally, I wanted to update everyone on
what tax forms the library currently has available. At last report we have Long and Short State
forms. We can photocopy the State book
but there is the cost for photocopying for that. And we have the Federal 1040 EZ and 1040A forms
and books and the 1040 forms. We are
still waiting on 1040 books. The forms
can also be downloaded from our website.
