Did You Know… the Atlantic Public Library no longer has a meeting room open to the public? Several years ago the library board changed the policy and made the rooms for library and ICN classes and programs only. Now, the library can offer more programs and cooperate with other organizations to have special programs for our patrons!
Behind My Desk… I didn’t want to push this program too soon, but I am so excited to have Rosanne Bachman come to the Atlantic Public Library on Wednesday evening, March 28 from 6:30 – 7:30 p.m. Several years ago now Rosanne published a book entitled Driving to Clarinda. Rosie grew up here in Atlantic as Rosanne Reimer. Some of you may have had Mrs. Reimer for fifth grade. Rosanne tells the story of her family and how they coped with mental illness in times when we knew very little about those kinds of diseases. Driving to Clarinda is an insightful and caring picture of a Midwestern family trying to cope with serious issue. I found the book easy to read and well written. The library has several copies available for loan.
Of course Rosanne will be talking about the issues in the book, but I think she plans to discuss a little about the process of writing the book. It should be an interesting and enjoyable evening. Please come!
I also listed on the Library Online Calendar and in the “Coming Events@ the Library” section of this column a note about the Dome Theater coming to the library on Monday, April 9. If you have a little time, you might want to look at the website for this activity. It is www.dometheater.net . Julie noticed that Exira was planning to have this at their school, so she decided to take a look online to see what is was about. She then let me know and we decided to use some of the State money given to us this year to book the theater for us some time during Library Week! THEN I saw they had a program on the Titanic! April 15th is the one hundredth anniversary of the sinking of this mighty ship. So, at least one of the programs will be about this event. I’m hoping that you will be able to take part in this special day.
In fact, that day is “Board Meeting Day” for the Library Board, so I scheduled a special viewing for them at 5 o’clock!
Well, that should keep us busy for a few days!
Happy St. Patrick’s Day!…and Keep Thinking Libraries!
