Did You
Know… the Atlantic Public Library is the home for
the Cass County Genealogical Society?
These members are the ones who help with questions about family trees!
Behind My
Desk… It broke my heart to see the damage caused by
the tornado that ripped through the northwest part of Creston a couple weeks
ago. I knew many of the people that had
homes in the area and recognized buildings (or what was left of buildings) that
were damaged. I couldn’t believe the AEA
building, and the new portion of the hospital.
Most people were very fortunate, but a few sustained critical and
serious injuries. It’s one of the down
sides to living in tornado alley.
Summer is just around the corner, and Julie is
starting to “gear up” for her library programs.
I’ll have more information about events and schedules in my May “Think
Library” columns. Plan on registering for
library programs on May 15 or 16 from 5-7 p.m. in the Washington School
Gym. It’s a perfect time to register for
all sorts of summer activities at the same time.
Also, don’t forget about our last All Cass
County Reads program scheduled for Saturday, May 12 from 10 to 11:30 a.m. at
the Griswold Public Library. The Lewis
Public Library will be co-hosting with Griswold for this event. May is National Mental Health Month, and Driving
to Clarinda has a special message about mental illness. If you haven’t had the chance to read the
book, I do recommend it; and Rosanne will be there to talk about her
experiences.
For a few weeks now, I have been trying to set
up report forms for next year. I create
most of my own forms with the aid of Excel spreadsheets. I have tried to anticipate what library board
members need to know as well as what they want to know, and there is a lot to
know! Those reports are just the tip of
the iceberg. I have to set up
spreadsheets for those spreadsheets! It
can be complicated, and I can just do it for so long before I have to step away
and look out my window. I’ve been
watching the workers pour the new sidewalks in the city park. They have been very painstaking in their
work. Nice job, guys!
Well, it’s back to those spreadsheets, and…Keep
Thinking Libraries!
